OUR WORK IN UKRAINE
Since the beginning of the war, I have had the great pleasure and honor of working with these students every week on their English Fluency. English is vital for them as they search for refugee status outside of Ukraine to start a new life. In addition, as the economy in Ukraine has collapsed, they also are looking for remote jobs where their language skills are crucial. They need us more than ever.
Olena lives in Kyiv with her 13 year old and 9 year old son whom I also have the pleasure of teaching. Her husband is required to stay in Ukraine to support the war effort, so they have all decided to stay with him. She is a retired police officer, loves hiking, traveling and reading.
Stepan is an engineer at one of the largest nuclear power plants in Ukraine. He manages a team and lives near the plant in Nikolaivic near Odessa. He has an 11 year old daughter, loves gardening and is never without a smile on his face.
Dima is an exceptional young man with a passion for digital animation and music, especially Michael Jackson. He shows up for class often lit by candlelight due to the lack of electricity. He lives in Western Ukraine which is a lesser developed region. His dream is to be an animator for video games.
